Let us guide you through the steps to get started with xAPI at your own pace.

Sarah Mercier, Build Capable

Introduction: What is the Experience API (xAPI)? Begin your journey with a basic explanation of the Experience API (xAPI). You will learn where xAPI data comes from, where it goes, and what you do with it.

Module 1: xAPI Statement Structure Explore the how xAPI data is structured within a statement. Once you can read a statement, you’ll begin to better understand how to use xAPI in your own work.

Module 2: xAPI-Ready Learning Ecosystem What are the enterprise-level technical considerations for xAPI implementation? Start by mapping your current learning ecosystem. Then, identify what you will need to be xAPI-ready.

Module 3: xAPI and the Learning Record Store (LRS) In this module, you will learn how xAPI statements are stored in the LRS. Then, enter our xAPI Simulator to see statements as they are sent to the LRS from an activity provider in real time.

Module 4: Data Strategy When working with xAPI data, you need a strategy. We share the steps to making strategic data decisions. Determine what you want to learn and identify where you can obtain relevant data sources. Then, discover how documenting vocabulary helps your team consistently structure xAPI data for improved analytics.

Module 5: Try xAPI Are you ready to try xAPI? You will have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in real-world activities. We will guide you through the steps to set up your own LRS test environment. Then, follow detailed instructions to send live xAPI statements from different activity providers to your LRS in real time!

Estimated completion time: 6 hours 30 minutes

You will receive an xAPI Basics Certificate from Learn xAPI upon completion of this course.

    1. Thanks Kelly! Congratulations on completing the course. It was so exciting to see your email with all of the statements you’ve been able to send through to Veracity. Great work!

  1. Lots of great information here in easy-to-access lessons. I am quite familiar with xAPI but have always been a fan of learning more, and these modules presented the info in distinct and useful ways. Also a great selection of resources to refer back to later!
